President's Message
From Board of Trustees President Nick Lewis:
Changes are Coming!
Change is important and a positive thing. The Board and I spent
a good part of the last year thinking and discussing how we might
change the Congregation and its operations to improve everyone's
experience. I want to let you know two significant changes that
will take effect in the fall.
First, we are changing our schedule by moving the first service
back 30 minutes so that it will start at 9:00 AM. This change reflects
comments that we heard from many quarters during our listening campaign
over the last year. The important thing about this is that it will
give us an hour between services that we hope to use for meetings,
rehearsals, various small group ministry opportunities and general
community building. I am convinced that this is an opportunity to
enrich everyone's Sunday experience without making the day stretch
into the afternoon. This will be a work in progress and we invite
your thoughts about how we can make use of this time.
Second, Rev. Judy Tomlinson will be taking on an expanded role
in the coming years. The Board and I felt that, as our RE Program
matured under Judy's leadership, the Congregation could make better
use of her skills. Working with the Council on Ministries and the
RE Committee, we redefined her responsibilities so that she can
spend more time on pastoral care, small group ministries, leadership
development and youth groups, while maintaining overall supervision
of our wonderful RE classes. We will be hiring an assistant to replace
our current RE Assistant, Daphne Wolf (who has decided to move on)
to handle the administrative duties. We are confident that this
will allow us to provide even better service to our members.
Finally, our UU-Ville Mayor, Kathy Szmak, who created the template
for this wonderful event, has decided to step down. We are looking
for someone who will help with the organization of this event which
is typically held on our Homecoming Sunday in September. If you
think that you might be interested in this important job, please
contact me at nicklewis@comcast.net.
