Dr. Thomas J. Parente is the author of a class piano textbook entitled The Evolving Class Pianist (Linus, 2012), a training text for teachers of class piano entitled “How to Teach Group Piano Successfully through Flow” (Linus, 2008), and a new piano pedagogy book The Positive Pianist: How Flow Can Bring Passion to Practice and Performance (Oxford University Press, 2015). His article with the same title was published by Clavier Companion in January, 2015. He is author of a series of piano books titled Awaken Your Musical Passion through the Piano. He is also a coauthor of Experiencing Choral Music, an innovative series of choral books published by McGraw Hill/Glencoe, which is published by GIA.
Dr. Parente is a frequent clinician and has presented workshops, courses, and clinics throughout the world. Having presented numerous Dalcroze presentations over the years, the most recent includes The Dalcroze Eurythmics Conference of 2014 which took place in Fort Collins, Colorado, and the Dalcroze Research conference which took place at the University of Coventry, England in 2014. This summer he will present a paper on the stages of skill acquisition in a music class for the Dalcroze Research Conference to be held at Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna.
He has presented workshops and acted as a consultant for two Brazilian class piano conferences that were held at The Universidad de Sao Paulo/Riberaio Preto in 2012 and Universidad de Goiania in 2013. He has also presented for the piano departments of Texas Tech and the Universidad Polytechnico in Castel Branca, Portugal; The Paris International Conference on Education, Economy, and Society; the Metropolitan Opera Guild; the Dalcroze Council of Australia; the Hawaiian Arts and Humanities Conference; the Gina Bachauer Piano Festival; the Conservatorio de Música de Puetro Rico; the International Society for Music Education (Tenerife, 2008, Bologna, 2010, Thessaloniki, 2012); the GP3 Piano Conference (University of Texas 2009); the World Piano Pedagogy Convention; and the College Music Society.
