On That Note – November 2016

You may have noticed in recent weeks that occasionally a member of the congregation or I have been working on a laptop or tablet computer during the service. What we are doing is NOT liveblogging the sermon or posting pictures of Rev. Judy’s cool red hat on Instagram; we are adjusting levels and settings of the newly upgraded sound system.

Wait a minute. Sound system upgrade? Didn’t we hear earlier this year that this would come with a hefty price tag? How did we come up with that?

Well, thanks to technological progress it turned out what we needed cost less than 1/10th (that’s right, ten percent) of the price that we had been quoted not that long ago. With the expert help of members Randy Crafton and Jason Brome (and the soldering skills of Randy’s intern Jeremy) plus the donation of a used ipad from the Showalter family, we were able set up a new system that allows us to control the sound from anywhere in the sanctuary – from an ipad.

I’m not sure if there is a moral to this story (other than, yet again, the amazing resourcefulness of our community). It’s just nice to write about getting something we have wanted for a long time.

In other news, we are starting a youth rock band for all tweens and teenagers who play an instrument or sing. Our first meeting/rehearsal will take place in the sanctuary on Sunday, Nov. 6th, at 12:30 pm.

Happy Halloween!
