For the first time, UUCM will host Montclair Township’s Interfaith MLK Day service on Monday, January 20, 2020 from Noon to 2:00 PM! Free and open to all, this event is Co-Sponsored by The Montclair Interfaith Clergy Association (MICA) and the Montclair African American Clergy Association (MAACA). UUCM is handicapped accessible and has devices for the hearing impaired.
The Service is titled “A Dream Deferred.” Among other issues we hope to examine the effects of Mass Incarceration, The School-to-Prison Pipeline, and other Structural Impediments to Freedom.
Leading the service will be Rev. Leslie Houseworth-Fields who serves as the senior pastor of St Mark’s United Methodist Church, in Montclair. She is a graduate of South Carolina State University, Clemson University and received the Master of Divinity degree from Emory University’s Candler School of Theology. She graduated with a concentration in Scripture and Interpretation and a certificate in Black Church Studies. She was also a recipient of the school’s prestigious Woodruff Fellowship and was selected as a Fund for Theological Education Ministry Fellow.
The Director of Music Ministries for UUCM, Markus Grae-Hauck, will coordinate music for the service. Choir members from other congregations will join to create a combined Choir.
Due to the number of folks in attendance there will not be a ’reception’ afterward. Contact Rev Scott for more details at revscott@uumontclair.org.
